Description
Welcome to Smalls Auctions Sale 319. This month’s highlights include a hoard of Russian Imperial Gold coins, featuring a scarce 7 ½ Rouble, four 15 Roubles, and multiple 5 and 10 Rouble coins bearing the portrait of the ill-fated Tzar Nicholas II. Like many monarchies, the Russian Imperial Family intermarried with other royal houses to preserve bloodlines, with Nicholas marrying the German Princess Alexandra—his first cousins George V and Kaiser Wilhelm II simultaneously ruling over Britain and Germany. Fascinatingly, Nicholas wrote his love letters to Alexandra in English to keep his feelings hidden from the prying eyes of the court. Also featured is a selection of over fifty desirable Australian and World Modern coin issues, including the impressive 2018 Australian ‘Figure 8 Dragon’ $2 coin in antique finish, struck from two ounces of pure silver. Among the standout items are some of the finest known Australian pre-decimal coins, notably a near-flawless 1931 Florin—only bettered by a plus grade, making it one of the highest-graded George V Florins in existence. Fine art collectors will appreciate a Ricketts-signed Royal Worcester boat-shaped pedestal vase adorned with a stunning fruit design, a piece from one of the most respected names in English porcelain. With over 300 lots on offer, there is plenty to explore and discover for collectors of all tastes.
Happy bidding! Smalls Auctions.
